Before contacting IT support, you can try to resolve the slowness of your computer by following the steps below.

The rzilient checklist for cleaning your computer

Start by backing up your data

  • Before starting any cleaning operation, make sure you have backed up all your important data.
  • This will prevent any loss of data in the event of a problem.
  • Use your company's cloud rather than an external hard drive.

Uninstall unnecessary programs

  • Go to Control Panel, then Programs and Features. Uninstall any software you no longer use or don't recognize.

Keep your operating system up to date

  • Make sure your hardware's operating system and drivers are up to date. Security and performance updates are essential.

Free up hard disk space

  • Delete unnecessary files, old documents, videos or photos you no longer use.
  • Be sure to empty the recycle garbage can regularly to permanently remove any files you've deleted.
  • A desktop cluttered with files can slow down your computer. Organize your files in folders and keep your desktop clean.
  • On a Mac, use the "Storage" application in System Preferences to identify and delete unnecessary files, such as caches, download files and duplicate items.

Delete temporary files

  • On a PC, use Windows' built-in disk cleaning tool to remove temporary files, cache files and other unnecessary items.

Disable startup programs

  • On a PC, in Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Escape), go to the "Startup" tab and disable programs you don't need to run when Windows starts up.
  • On a Mac, go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items to manage the applications that launch on startup.

Analyze and remove malware

  • Use antivirus software to scan your computer for viruses, malware and other threats. Make sure your antivirus is up to date.

Optimize feed parameters

  • Adjust power settings to improve performance rather than save energy.
  • On a PC, this is usually done via the Control Panel.
  • On a Mac, go to System Preferences to adjust power saving, display, security and privacy settings to suit your needs.

If the slowness persists, contact rzilient IT support.
