How do I manually wipe a computer that has not been enrolled in the MDM?

MDM enrolment enables you to wipe a computer remotely. If the computer is not enrolled, it can of course be reset manually.

macOS

Visit this Apple support page to wipe a MacBook.

This feature requires MacOS Monterey or later and a MacBook with an Apple chip or Apple's T2 security chip.

Find out what to do if you can't use the "Delete content and settings" feature.

⚠️ Make sure that no Apple ID is connected to avoid blocking.

Windows 11

To wipe your PC, go to Start > Settings > System > Recover. Next to wipe this PC, select wipe the PC.

Select Keep my files, choose cloud or local, modify your settings, then set Restore preinstalled applications? to No.

Windows 10

If you have access to the user session, here is Microsoft's tutorial for wipe a computer running Windows 10 or 11.

On the other hand, if you're unable to open the user session (in the event of a forgotten password, for example), this tutorial explains how to force a Windows 10 computer reset :

"If you don't want to retrieve the data stored on your computer, you can do it yourself. wipe yourself. To initiate the procedure, switch on your computer and access the login screen. Then hold down the Shift key while selecting the Start/Stop icon.‍ Restart in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. After restarting, click on Troubleshooting and then select " wipe this computer". All data on your main hard drive, software and settings will then be erased. Windows 10 will then begin to reinstall. You will be prompted to configure several pieces of information when it starts up, including your user account password, which you won't want to forget again!"
