Should a computer be reset remotely or in person?
 |

Do you regularly have newcomers in your team?

As well as people who leave your company, to go on to new professional adventures?

If this is the case, then you definitely have to reset machines in your IT fleet. 💻

There are two main methods available to you:

  • On-site intervention of an IT expert at your premises,
  • Support for remote reset via specialized remote control software such as Zoho.

We'll look at the pros and cons of both options, but first, let's look at why you should reset your computers before offering them to new users!

Why reset your computers?

Why not just give an existing computer, as is, to your new employee?

There are three key benefits to consider when resetting a computer!

Ensure data security and protection

Resetting a PC or a Mac is first of all a guarantee that the data on it will not be consulted and used by its new user.

To take an example, you probably don't want your CFO's old computer, who has decided to change machines, to end up in the hands of the trainee who has just arrived!

At least not without first cleaning the machine and deleting all sensitive and confidential data.

Many employees also store personal data on their hard drives. Resetting helps protect the privacy of that data too! 🔐

Have a stock of computers ready for use

Does your company hire a lot of people?

You then have regular onboarding to manage.

And to save everyone time, it is ideal to have a stock of machines already reset and updated. They can be made available to their new user very quickly.

The time savings can be significant when someone joins your team. Your new employees can start working as soon as they arrive, rather than having to wait for a machine to be prepared!

Maximizing computer performance

Finally, cleaning a machine is also a guarantee that its new user will enjoy its best performance.

Your former employee may have forgotten to clean his or her desk, or may have installed a lot of resource-intensive software...

In this case, a reset performed by an expert will have the added value of greatly optimizing the performance of the computer, and allow your employee to be productive and motivated.

It's well known that nobody likes to work on a computer that "slows down"!

Reset remotely or in person: analysis of advantages and disadvantages

Abdelkrim, iT manager at Rzilient, recently visited one of our customers in Paris to reset PCs.

The objective of the intervention was to reset 5 machines, following departures and arrivals in the customer's team.

"We could have done a remote intervention using Zoho Assist. However, in this case, we felt it was better to go on site," says Abdelkrim.

Why perform these resets on site, rather than remotely?

In the case of a long intervention, involving several machines, the use of a remote control software is, in our opinion, not ideal.

Indeed, it blocks a person of your team for several hours, in interaction with our IT expert. During this time, your employee is not productive! He is stuck in front of his computer, on Zoho Assist and cannot progress in his work.

The physical presence of our expert therefore frees up time for your team.

But that's not all, it also allows us to take advantage of our presence on site to advise your team and to get to know you. This is nice on the one hand, but also very useful for the smooth running of our subsequent remote interventions!

The remote reset is adapted when it concerns only one machine (the intervention will be then fast) or for operations such as to solve a problem of lost password or an installation of Office to finalize.
