I requested a repair and received both an approved and a non-approved quote. Why the difference?
In order to widen your repair options, quotes come from two types of repairer: Apple-approved repairers and independent repairers.
In some cases, the cost of repair by an authorized repairer may be comparable to or even higher than the price of replacing the faulty Mac.
Conversely, choosing an independent repairer can be financially more advantageous in these cases, as they often use cheaper non-official parts and/or offer labor at a lower rate than authorized repairers.
However, it is important to note that the use of non-official parts may affect the validity of the warranty in the event of a problem covered by it at a later date. That's why we generally recommend independent repairers for Macs no longer under warranty!
